The GCLA is happy to welcome researchers wishing to do research on Late Antiquity in Ghent. Whilst the Centre itself does not hand out any scholarships, it can help qualified and promising scholars in their applications for funding:
- fully funded doctoral projects (2 + 2 years): funding through Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO), deadline 1st of March, to start on 1st of November. See https://www.fwo.be/en/fellowships-funding/phd-fellowships/phd-fellowship-fundamental-research/
- fully funded postdoctoral projects (junior or senior, 3 years): funding through Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO), deadline 1st of December, to start on 1st of October. See https://www.fwo.be/en/fellowships-funding/postdoctoral-fellowships/
- visiting scholarships (1 to 3 months) for scholars with two or more years of postdoctoral experience: funding through Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) (see https://www.fwo.be/en/fellowships-funding/international-mobility/incoming-mobility/grant-for-a-scientific-stay-in-flanders/) or through our Faculty’s Commission for Scientific Research (CWO) (see https://www.ugent.be/lw/en/research/facultyresearchfund#Incomingstay).
Coming to Ghent as a self-funded doctoral student is possible if a professor is willing to supervise you and if you can provide the university with proof of income. See https://www.ugent.be/en/research/doctoralresearch/recommended-financial-means-for-phd-students#InformationforprospectivePhDcandidates
If you are interested in one of the above possibilities, please get in touch with one of the professors of the GCLA: https://www.gcla.ugent.be/members/#anchor0
